Hanukkah Menorah Lighting event at Galleria Dallas

Galleria Dallas is celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah with a special menorah lighting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. This event will take place on the first level of the mall, near Tiffany & Co.

The large menorah at Galleria Dallas will be a focal point for commemorating Hanukkah, as it will be lit each night of the festival to honor Jewish customs.

Rabbi Andrew Paley from Temple Shalom Dallas will speak at the menorah lighting event, initiating the ceremony by lighting the first candle. The evening will also feature a performance by Kol Shalom, the youth choir from Temple Shalom.

For those who enjoy sweet treats, Jarams donut shop will offer Sufganiyah, a traditional Hanukkah jelly donut, during the event.

Hanukkah, an eight-day Jewish festival, commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt. The lighting of the Menorah is a key tradition of Hanukkah. Jews light candles on the Menorah during this festival to recall the Maccabees’ victory and the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days in the holy Temple. It is considered a mitzvah, a divine commandment, for Jews to “publicize the miracle” by lighting a Hanukkah Menorah each night throughout the holiday.
