Diamond Hill-Jarvis senior wins back-to-back cross-country state championships

Senior Angel Sanchez also won first place last year

For the third year in a row, Diamond-Hill Jarvis High School senior Angel Sanchez brought a UIL state medal in cross country home to Fort Worth.

For the second year in a row, it was gold.

On Nov. 4, Sanchez won the 4A UIL state cross country meet with an impressive time of 15:09.9! Sanchez beat his own record; last year, he ran the race in 15:47.5.

Coach Ana Rios said Sanchez was injured in the spring and unable to finish his track season. However, he worked hard to heal and defend his title. Sanchez is a hard worker on and off the track, she said.

“It’s truly been a privilege to work with such a dedicated athlete,” Rios said. “His self-motivation is inspiring and continues to grow daily. I have no doubt he will keep evolving and reaching new heights as an athlete. He is truly an inspiration and makes our whole community very proud!”

Congratulations, Angel! FWISD is proud to have you representing this district!
