Fort Worth residents warned of scammers posing as cops, court officials

Fort Worth, Texas – Fort Worth is facing a troubling trend of scammers pretending to be police officers and court officials, attempting to deceive residents into paying non-existent fines or warrants by phone.

These scammers are employing tactics designed to instill fear, urging individuals to pay fines or settle warrants over the phone. However, residents should be aware that court clerks would never contact them for over-the-phone payments.

William Rumuly, the director of the Fort Worth Municipal Court, issued a stark warning about this deceptive practice. He stated, “Fort Worth is a Safe Harbor Court, meaning residents can always visit a Fort Worth Municipal Court location without fear of arrest for outstanding warrants issued by the Fort Worth Municipal Court.”

The City of Fort Worth advises residents to be wary of anyone demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest, as this is a clear sign of a scam. Residents should also be skeptical of unexpected threats regarding missed jury duty or unforeseen fees.

Residents have the option to reschedule jury duty at no cost by directly contacting the courthouse at 817-392-7633 or through email. For any concerns or dubious circumstances, the Fort Worth Municipal Court can be reached at 817-392-6700 during regular business hours or online. Additionally, any suspicious activities should be promptly reported to the police at 817-392-4222.
