Dallas-Fort Worth might become the largest metro area in US

Fort Worth, Texas – As we look forward to the year 2100, just 77 years ahead, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is on track to potentially become the most populous region in the United States.

A recent analysis by moveBuddha, a company specializing in relocation technology, estimates that by the end of the century, North Texas might be home to over 33 million residents. As of now, New York City, with a population of 8.3 million, and Los Angeles, with 3.8 million, top the list of America’s most populated cities.

The forecast by moveBuddha utilized data from the U.S. Census Bureau, focusing on urban areas nationwide with populations exceeding 250,000. The company extended the 2010-2020 growth rates from the U.S. Census to predict growth over the next 77 years.

Already ranked as the fourth fastest-growing metro area in the U.S. in 2023, Dallas-Fort Worth could experience a significant population surge if these trends persist.

The study anticipates that Texas could host more than 87 million people by 2100, including the populations of Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Austin.

Projected population figures for 2100, as per the study, are as follows:

  • Dallas-Fort Worth: 33.91 million
  • Houston: 31.38 million
  • Austin: 22.29 million
  • Phoenix: 22.27 million
  • New York City: 20.8 million
  • Atlanta: 18.37 million
  • Los Angeles: 15.5 million
  • Washington DC: 14.97 million
  • Orlando: 14.17 million
  • Miami: 13.78 million

This study by moveBuddha aligns with other research indicating a population explosion in the Metroplex.

A report from PODS Enterprise during the summer also highlighted the Metroplex as a top destination for movers. The study attributed this trend to the rise of remote work and the desire to live closer to family.

Furthermore, the influx of major tech firms like Tesla, Hewlett-Packard, Apple, and Amazon, which have either launched new campuses or relocated their headquarters to Texas, has been a significant draw for people moving to cities such as Fort Worth and Dallas.

With such an influx, Texas might soon reconsider its “lone” moniker as more people flock to the state.
