Fort Worth to transform Hillside Park tennis court into new street soccer field for community use
Fort Worth, Texas – Residents in Fort Worth will soon see a new recreational space take shape at Hillside Park as the Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department partners with Street Soccer USA to transform an existing tennis court into a dedicated street soccer field. The project aims to expand access to sports while creating a welcoming space for youth and families in the surrounding community.
The current court will be converted into a modern street soccer field featuring artificial turf and built-in goals. The design will support year-round play and organized programming, providing a durable and accessible surface for players of all skill levels.
Partnership expands access to sports and mentorship
The new field will host organized programming led by Street Soccer USA, a national nonprofit operating in 16 cities across the United States. Through its programs, the organization serves more than 75,000 youth from underserved communities, offering opportunities for soccer participation, mentorship, and community building. When organized activities are not in session, the field will remain open for free play, ensuring ongoing public access.
As part of the partnership, Street Soccer USA has committed up to $10,000 annually toward maintenance of the facility. This investment is intended to help keep the field safe, high quality, and accessible for years to come.
“This project is a great example of adaptive reuse, taking an underused court and reimagining it as a programable soccer space for the community,” said Kyle McClure, assistant director of the Park & Recreation Department. “It shows how collaboration can expand recreational opportunities in Fort Worth.”
City officials say the Hillside Park street soccer field reflects Fort Worth’s continued commitment to innovative partnerships and improving park spaces for residents of all ages and abilities. By repurposing an existing facility, the project not only revitalizes an underused area but also introduces a dynamic new activity that encourages physical activity, teamwork, and positive community engagement.
Construction timelines and programming details will be announced as the project progresses. Officials hope the new field will become a vibrant gathering place where young athletes can develop skills, build friendships, and experience the benefits of organized sports in a supportive environment.
