Tarrant County Jail inmate dies shortly after hospitalization
Fort Worth, Texas – A man who was incarcerated at the Tarrant County Jail passed away after being transported to a hospital in the early hours of Wednesday. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death of 63-year-old Harold Kent Roberts, who was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday. Roberts had been incarcerated at the jail since February 7th.
Roberts’ journey through the legal system began in September 2020, following his arrest on charges related to a domestic violence incident. He was accused of injuring an elderly person by grabbing and choking a woman in Fort Worth. However, his trial faced significant delays when he was found incompetent to stand trial in November 2020. Following this determination, Roberts was ordered into a mental health treatment program aimed at restoring his competency.
After undergoing the prescribed mental health treatment, Roberts was deemed competent to stand trial on January 31st. Consequently, he was transferred back to the Tarrant County Jail on February 7th, marking the final chapter of his legal and personal struggles.
The circumstances of Roberts’ death have yet to be fully disclosed, with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office not providing immediate comments on the matter. This incident raises questions about the care and treatment of individuals within the criminal justice system, especially those requiring mental health interventions.
